Showtime For FESPA In Germany

The recent FESPA 2007 digital printing exhibition held in Berlin, Germany, boasted over 661 exhibitors showcasing their products. A record total of 24,232 individual visitors attended the five-day show. A significant proportion of visitors returned to the halls on consecutive days, resulting in over 37,500 visits. Plus an additional 9000 exhibitor attendees not included in the audited visitor numbers. Visitors came from over 125 countries. Just over 60% of visitors came from outside of Germany, and after the host nation, the top five countries in terms of visitor nationality were as follows: Italy, Poland, Netherlands, United Kingdom, and Spain. Reflecting the growth in Europe's emerging markets, visitors from Eastern European countries represented 12% of the show's overall attendance. Visitors were able to experience many brand new print products and developing technologies at the show, indicating once again that FESPA exhibitions present manufacturers with a perfect launch pad and route to market, enabling them to achieve maximum impact among their target audiences. Frazer Chesterman, managing director of FESPA, comments: "We are thrilled with the success of FESPA 2007. Feedback from exhibitors has been extremely positive with many beating ambitious sales targets early in the show, and achieving double the number of sales initially expected by the time the show closed. Visitors benefited from experiencing the industry's latest technology developments under one roof, and took full advantage of the opportunity to attend a range of free showcase theatre seminars and debates, and convene with industry peers. The phenomenal footfall in Berlin underlines the value that FESPA provides to exhibitors and visitors, and this is borne out by the speed and enthusiasm with which exhibitors have responded to the release of floor plans for the next FESPA Digital Printing Europe exhibition, taking place in Geneva, 1st - 3rd April 2008, and the next global FESPA event, to be held in Munich, 8th - 12th June 2010."

KIP pre-launch previewComing soon to a copy shop near you, the KIP Colour 80 is previewed to the digital print trade exclusively here in CSN.

The premiere of a digital printing innovation: The KIP Color 80 is the world's first LED monochrome and full colour by CMYK plotter in A0 format and could change the face of digital printing forever - particularly poster and placard production. The system was unveiled to a wider public for the first time at FESPA.With the KIP Color 80, the Japanese specialist in large-format multi-function systems (printing, copying, and scanning) has fully incorporated all of its decades of experience in LED technology into the development of this revolutionary printer. The performance data of the KIP Color 80 and the comparatively low consumption costs offer a highly attractive alternative to existing technology.Uniquely productive and with remarkable colour brilliance17 seconds: This magic number describes the performance core of the KIP Color 80. This is how long the printer needs to print out an A0 page as a four-colour full-coverage graphic. The system has a capacity for the equivalent of 4.8 metres or 3.5 A0 prints per minute - which makes it a peerlessly productive plotter for any placard and poster printing specialist like todays copy shop.

The only available print mode 'Normal' is automatically set to the best possible printing quality. This makes the plotter up to 17 times faster compared with a generic Inkjet A0 printout in quality mode.Four automatic intake rollers ensure an uninterrupted material supply. Besides the standard media such as 80gsm paper, the machine can also work with media such as blue-back paper, glossy, backlit films and even heavier paper weighing up to 135gsm - all of which opens up an extremely wide range of possible uses for the machine. Initial tests with uncoated films have also produced competitive results.Genuine 600 x 600 dpi optical resolution with four non-magnetic dry toners for KIP's unique image development system in CMYK ensures output brilliance with colour fidelity. The fact that the KIP Color 80 also guarantees very good reproduction qualities for black in both extremely fine lines and on larger surface areas is, as far as one of the leading plotter manufacturers is concerned, a natural high-end property. This makes the printer a multi-functional plotter for both black and white and colour.www.kipuk.com

More success for Vivid
Vivid Laminating Technologies exhibited for the first time at FESPA this year and found it a huge success. The UK based company took their latest range of Easymount™ wide format laminators and Linea roll fed systems to the show and demonstrated them in action. One of the attractions to the stand was Vivid's collaboration with Insite, the appointed signage contractor for FESPA who specialise in a unique, contemporary range of signage. Insite took a Canon 8400p to the show so they could print on demand graphics and signage needed for the exhibition. Vivid then laminated the finished product and attracted visitors by demonstrating laminating techniques on the Easymount™ models.

Throughout the show Vivid met with over 150 potential new customers from across Europe who will be looking to resell the popular range of products. The interest in the latest double hot roller system, the 1650-DH, proved overwhelming and the first new model was purchased straight off the stand by a Portuguese company who asked for it to be shipped out to them on the closing day of the show!

Vivid planned for FESPA being a very energetic show, and with attendance figures up 20% on 2005, FESPA was even livelier than anticipated. The success of the event has convinced many exhibitors, including Vivid, to sign up for FESPA once again in 2010 which will be held in the cultural capital of Munich. To find out more about Vivid please visit www.vivid-online.com

EFI Superwide Triumph
The European market responded positively to EFI's VUTEk® equipment on display at the world's principal event for the large format digital and screen printing industries. EFI's achievements at FESPA 2007 demonstrate the market leadership of its superwide format VUTEk printers and inks and its unique
ability to deliver complete customer focused solutions and applications. EFI demonstrated a broad suite of its printers, application capabilities, software workflow and management tools at the exhibition. Specific printers on display included the award-winning VUTEk® QS3200 - EFI's three metre UV-curing
digital inkjet printer which offers users superior image quality on both rigid and flexible substrates up to 3.2 metres wide and up to 5 cm thick. Also part of the product showcase was the 3.2 metre roll-to-roll VUTEk® 3360, EFI's versatile, superwide solvent printer that enables print shops to easily step up to the legendary print quality, performance and reliability of a VUTEk digital inkjet printer.Commenting on the sales success, Paul Cripps, Managing Director EFI Europe, says, "From the outset, FESPA 2007 was a big hit for us and throughout the event we enjoyed a record volume of quality traffic to the stand resulting in record sales and new leads. This fantastic response from the market reflects EFI's worldwide recognition for delivering industry-leading technology that enables service providers to print to win, and is indicative of the team spirit and professionalism that exists within our organisation."EFI started FESPA 2007 with flying colours, when JPM GRAPHIC of Paris, France purchased a VUTEk® 5330 superwide format printer on the first day of the show. JPM's owner, Mr Jean-Pierre Chaste, is typical of other key decision makers who, having researched the powerful attributes and features of the VUTEk 5330, made the trip to Germany to purchase a printer which he says is
completely in a class of its own."We made the investment in the VUTEk 5330 because it fulfils our application needs in the production of visually impacting display banners and other large format graphics that we undertake for various customers including famous Parisian museums", explains Chaste. "Crucially, we needed high quality five metre printing capability and it was EFI who ultimately offered the best output quality at this size. Care and maintenance was also an important consideration for us, and EFI's offering in this area is outstanding." Since such work was previously outsourced to a sub-contractor, the 5330 purchase will, says Chaste, enhance JPM's service offering by providing the company with more efficient control over colour output and production workflow. Also attracting immense interest in Berlin was VUTEk® UV Series 50™ UV-curable ink that is specially developed for difficult-to-adhere-to substrates; BioVu™ - EFI's award-winning environmentally-friendly solvent-based ink; Ultratex™ - a versatile dye-sublimation ink; and the EFI Fiery® XF RIP, which provides powerful production solutions that enable printers to handle today's demands for higher volumes and tight turnaround times, and which now offers new colour rendering technology to deliver improved ROI.www.efi.com
