CSN Show Tour Review - Eye Catchers Across The Two Shows
How was it for you then? As last month's CSN went to bed we were on our way back from Northprint Harrogate en-route to Birmingham Digital Expo. We of course had to touch base in Brighton with last month's early doors show review as part of our round trip. Anyway, one down, one to go. Even better, Rachel has volunteered to do the last leg and visit her home town Birmingham to take in Digital Expo/Sign Show and say Happy Birthday to her Dad.Across the two shows there was plenty of kit we could make room for in our own print room, plus exciting new software. The following were well worth writing home about and are the beneficaries of our prestigious CSN Show Awards.

Best StandThe Best Stand sported the most Perfect Colours. Leading HP reseller Perfect Colours supported Hewlett Packard on their stand at Sign UK this year where the full array of HP large format printers were showcased and the new HP Designjet Z6100 series printer made its debut. In addition to this Perfect Colours promoted their 'just-opened' on-site 3000m2 showroom and demonstration suite, PosterJet RIP software and brand new corporate brochures. Midlands-based company, JB Marketing & Consultancy Ltd (JBMC), celebrated the success of this latest stand production for HP. The 'streetwise' themed stand was a concept creation for the large format printer manufacturer by utilising all aspects of their products from printers to materials for every part of their presence at the UK's largest sign show.

JBMC wanted to ensure that HP's presence at the show was very prominent; arresting graphics dominated the billboards and signs from the car park into the hall itself, where they had huge banners adorning the reception area and unique and eye-catching graphics covering their stand in the main hall - and everything was printed on the latest HP large format printers and HP large format media to ensure optimum product coverage. Some of the graphics for the stand and outdoor banners were printed on the HP Scitex XL1500 and using HP media. The rest of the graphics were printed by Leeds-based graphic specialists Electronic Print Services who used the latest Designjet Z-Series and 10000 series large format printers and HP speciality media including scrim banner, coated and uncoated paper, canvas and backlight film, to produce them.Visitors were treated to an array of superb quality images and sharp text on the various media, which exhibited the HP Designjet and Scitex XL1500 printers' true capabilities. In addition to that, the stand featured all these large format products which then further displayed their speed and quality in real time. The graphics found outside the Sign UK and Digital Expo halls, namely the billboards and banners on the walkway from the car park; were again JBMC's design brainchild and were also printed solely using HP products for effect.

Berni Dack, MD of JBMC says, "A bad workman always blames his tools so we made sure we used the best tools and the right people to create a truly outstanding stage where HP could launch and demonstrate their latest products in a setting that visually shouts out exactly 'look what HP can do for your business'. The stand was a real team effort with HP teams in Belgium and the UK, alongside our designers and carpenters, working flat out to ensure it was a success. As a concept, this stand was a real challenge and now the design has been realised I'm delighted that we were set such a difficult brief - the bar has definitely been raised for next year!' The Morgana range covers the gamut of creasers, creaser/folders, folders, bookletmakers and complete finishing systems, augmented by the recent introduction of the KB 2000 perfect binder. Capable of producing 320 books per hour, the KB 2000 overcomes the problem of fusion oils produced by some digital print processes.Other recent introductions on display include the Morgana DigiCreaser, a unit that is fully automatic after feeding, which completes a range of creasers that includes everything from manually operated models, through the semi-automatic Electro-Creaser to well-known best sellers such as the AutoCreaser 33 and 50 and the DigiFold.

Morgana creasers provide customers with a guaranteed upgrade path that culminates in the Morgana DocuMaster, a complete system that combines feeding, creasing and bookletmaking in a single unit. This highly-successful product halves the time and manpower required to make booklets using separate creasing and bookletmaking units and can also be used as an independent creaser with the ability to perforate.

Other products shown by Morgana included the range of UFO folders, the FSN and FRN5 rotary numberers and the Foldnak range of bookletmakers and trimmers by Ernst Nagel, who also make the Citoborma range of drills for which Morgana is sole UK distributor. EBA programmatic guillotines were also on display, as were Uchida collators, Rhin-o-Tuff punching and binding equipment, the Bindomatic 101 presentation binder and the Morgana CardXtra, which is designed to produce short run business cards printed digitally or conventionally.Best InterviewNow you should have been there, but thanks to the new hi-tec CSN Live www.copyshopnews.co.uk you can experience Jos Kelly, Konica Minolta's head of production print business talking about our world.Do have a good listen as he is one of the few in the know.
